Thumb Slug
Bowling Thumb Slug Question?

what is the advantages of having a thumb slug in a bowling ball rather than a regular drill?

By regular drill, do you mean conventional grip? If you’re going to learn to bowl properly and hook the ball you should use a fingertip grip.

A thumb slug is inserted into the thumb hole in a fingertip grip. It’s mostly about personal preference; some people are more comfortable with it, some aren’t. For example, I use finger grips but no thumb slug on my fingertip-drilled bowling balls. Try it out, and see how it feels. If you like it, don’t hesitate to spend extra on it.

Also, to ensure that the thumbs fit is the same in all of your bowling balls, you might want to invest in an interchangeable thumb slug. That way, when you switch balls between games or in the middle of a game, you can just take the slug out and put it into the other ball. You may also want a separate one for your spare ball since you’re going to be using it a lot.
