How can I get my Express SR to run ?
I have a 1981 Honda Express SR. I can get it to start and run on starting fluid but will not run on its own. Pulled spark plug and it is dry. Gas is getting to the carb. When I pull out screw gas drains out of bottom of bowl but doesnt seem to be getting to the piston. Cleaned tank and fuel filter. Out of ideals….Help thanks
The carburetor needs to be cleaned.
Most carbs have a removable pilot jet.
The pilot jet controls the idle circuit.
It’s opening is as thin as a pin and is easily clogged with bad gas.
Express & Gyro carbs don’t have a removable pilot jet, so it’s difficult to fully clean it.
Next to the main jet is a long brass tube – that would be the pilot jet.
Using carb cleaner in a spray can, spry into that tube.
If the spray comes out a different hole in the carb, that circuit is clean.
If the spray won’t come out another opening, the tube is clogged.
Strip the carb of all removable parts and soak it in carb cleaner – spray through every opening to check if every circuit is clear.
The pilot jet (long tube) is removable if you know the trick.
Grab it near the base where it’s pressed into the carb with a pair of diagonal cutters (wire cutters).

Pry the jet out of the carb.
Hold it up to the light – you should be able to see through it.
Soak it in carb cleaner until you can.
Pull a strand of wire out of a wire brush and use that to poke through the clogged opening – clean it again.
Tap the tube back into the carb with a hammer.
