Min Pins and Over active ness?
I would like to know if any of you hae a Min Pin and if so I am tryng to figure out ALL THEY ALL OVER ACTIVE?? kind of like they are on drugs or something–there is no slowing down my Duke nor any other Min Pins I had except a female one I had. He just does not stop from morning till night and is very protective of me to the point that he is not at all friendly with people until he has them around for quite some time like days . On the other hand he can be the most gentle cuddly guy around when it comes to being with me in uiet times. Is this all normal with Min Pins???
simply put, read the history of the breed and you will see that this dog was bred to work. It was really never met to be a house pet. They need a securely fenced yard to run and wear off the high energy noted in the breed. Doing this makes for a less destructive dog.
The breed lives in a state of “terrible two’s” well into their senior years.
If you do not have the energy level they require and the time they require than it is best you look for someone that does or adjust your lifestyle accordingly.
Pins that have the opportunity to wear themselves out will do better at night and can relax but once the energy level is replentished, they are off and running again.
Give the dog something to do regularly. They are great at agility or as simple as playing fetch for about 4 hours straight.
As with most high engery breed dogs lifespan is approx 12 to 14 years. Unfortunately it is not til around 11 to 12 do they finally slow down. I have a 13 1/2 year old female that can out run a couple of my 1 1/2 year olds and still can catch and kill rats in the yard on the farm.
