How to Find a Perfect Fitting Bra
Wearing a well-fitting bra is important for various reasons. To begin, it improves your posture and can change your figure for the better, instantly. It’s also important for daily comfort and overall confidence. Yet a shocking 70% of women wear the wrong sized bra. Many women overlook regular bra fittings, often relying on old bust measurements, or even worse, not knowing which qualities entail a good or bad fit. It’s simple to get an accurate measurement, and subsequently find the perfect fitting bra. What’s more, you can take a bust measurement yourself, from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
A perfect fitting bra begins with an accurate and current bust measurement – so the first step is to know exactly how to measure yourself. There are two steps to getting your correct bra size: finding your bra band measurement, and finding your cup size.
To find your bra band measurement, use a soft tape measure to measure your rib cage directly under your bust. The tape should fit firmly around your bust, but should not be too tight or uncomfortable. Next, you’ll want to use a bra chart to convert your band measurement into a bra size. For instance, a band size of 73 – 77 centimetres is equivalent to a bra size of 34, while a band size of 88 – 92 centimetres is equivalent to a bra size of 40. To find your cup size, use a soft tape measure around the fullest part of your bust. Again, the tape measure should be firm – but not too tight – around your bust, and it should be level at the front and back. Finally, use a bra size chart to find your corresponding cup size.
While you should measure your bust size on a regular basis, there are some signs that can immediately tell you that your bra isn’t fitting correctly. For example, if your bra straps are too tight or digging into your shoulders, the band is likely too big and not giving you enough support. Similarly, if the bra band is riding up in the back, the bra is too big, or the straps are too tight to compensate for the loose band. It’s important that the under band fits you correctly, as it’s the part of the bra that provides most of the support. If the centre front of your bra is pushed away from your body – or if there’s a small gap – the cups are probably too small. However, if the under wire is digging in, either the band or the cups are too small. There should also be no bulging over the cups, as this is a sign the cups are too small.
Finally, it’s important to remember that your bust size will change over time, depending on your age, weight, tissue elasticity, and various other factors. So it’s essential that you take your bust measurement on a regular basis, to ensure you continue to wear your bras with both comfort and confidence.
