In applying to Columbia Univ.’s School of Gen. Studies as a full-time freshman, is it right?
I plan on majoring in film studies, and I know the main Columbia University has the major, but the deadline to apply for fall 2007 is passed. In the School of General Studies is nontraditional and many students are part timers, but there is a very small number of freshmen there. I started to apply, but now I am skeptical if i should continue since it is a nontraditional school and as a first-time freshman I will truly be a fish out of water.
It’s considerably less prestigious than attending Columbia U. What are the other colleges you are considering? I’ll be able to answer more fully if I can do a comparison.
You can certainly apply, but also apply to other schools. Some good schools offer rolling admissions. That means that, even if you’ve missed the application deadline, so long as the class isn’t full, they will consider your application.
I don’t know if these schools are still accepting applications, but strong film schools include:
NYU
UCLA
USC
Vancouver Film
You can also look at good schools in the next tier down: Boston University and Syracuse. North Carolina School of the Arts. Even Emerson.
