Start by trying out a whitening gel. These can be purchased over-the-counter from your pharmacy. Whitening gels contain an ingredient called hydrogen peroxide. The gel is brushed onto your teeth. A chemical reaction involving oxygen and the peroxide will gently remove stains and other discolorations.
Before applying the gel, read the instructions carefully. You might have to experiment with a few gels until you are satisfied. The reason for this is that the applicators come in different sizes. You need one that is comfortable when you use it.
Whitening strips are another popular product. These can be used safely every day because they contain no harsh ingredients that may damage enamel. They are placed over your teeth for half an hour. You can apply the strips before going out, while you are studying, or while you’re watching a movie.
Floss and brush your teeth before you use the whitening strips. And make sure your teeth are thoroughly dry. Carefully remove each strip away from the backing film and gently push them over your teeth. While they are in your mouth, you must not drink or eat! Wash your hands well after you remove the strips.
Another option is whitening trays. The trays are filled with a peroxide gel and then placed over your teeth for about an hour. You can extend the time if you do not experience any sensitivity. Each application will last for several hours so you will have to do the procedure every day if you want your teeth to look bright and white all of the time.
