Isn’t It Rather Easy To Win The Sportsmanship Award When You’re Constantly Winning And Playing Great Tennis?
It’s an insult to the great Stefan Edberg (a true gentleman and champion) to keep giving out the Sportsmanship Award to Roger Federer. We see how much of a gentlemen he is now that the competition has caught up to him. Besides, you could always tell that he was masking his arrogance even when he was exhibiting what appeared to be good sportsmanship.
Don’t you think Nadal is close to 100 times the better sport than Roger Federer?
Nadal is like 10000 times a better sport than Roger Federer. Before Roger had no problem being a good sport, he was winning, it isn’t that difficult to be a good winner, and even then he was a tad arrogant. Now that he is no longer winning and things aren’t going his way it is easy to see that this award shouldn’t have been going to him. His attitude towards the players that can consistently beat him (aka the rest of the top 4 players) is despicable. Not only has he shown the tennis public that he is unable to accept loss, but he is unable to give credit to ALL players when credit is due. At the Australian Open, Roger said that he should have won the fifth set, he just made to many errors. He has frequently said that he shouldn’t have lost to Murray. After his semifinal loss to Novak, he said that the wind played a major factor in messing up his game. To many excuses, he needs to get it together and realize that everything that he has told us is something that he could fix. A real champion is able to play in windy conditions (Nadal’s performance against Murray in Indian Wells final) and real champion is able to accept defeat gracefully even if he truly believes that he deserved the win. Why they haven’t given this award to Nadal already is beyond me though.
