What is the best way to scare away a black bear?
Im going camping this weekend and im kinda worried about having our food/supplies torn into by the wildlife of New Brunswick, Canada. Im pretty sure the biggest and most intimidating thing we could possibly find (other than a moose) is a Black Bear. So my question is, What shoud i do if i encounter one, or need to scare it away from our camp?
Thanks.
Black bears don’t like noise. If you guys are noisy they will stay away. Make sure you secure your food, don’t leave it out.
If you see a bear but they don’t see you quietly walk away and give time time to leave the area.
If the bear sees you but you are reasonable distance away from then. DO NOT SCREAM! Talk softly so they can identify that you are human and that you are not a threat to them.
When you encounter a black bear it is extremely important to stay calm. Running and screaming is the worst thing you can do. They will take you as a threat and you are more likely to get attacked. Back away slowly.
Worry about your safety rather than trying to protect the food. If a bear comes to your camp site the last thing you should do is try to scare it away and pull out food. Just get away from there.
