What would it take for the Baltimore Ravens to get Josh Cribbs from Cleveland Browns?
He’s the one playmaker that the Ravens so desperately need!!!
An act of congress. I don’t mean to sound negative but I don’t think a trade will happen.
First of all they’re division rivals. There’s more to their rivalry with most teams because the Ravens were the Browns that packed up and moved away. There is bitterness there, and the Browns won’t trade in their division (especially with the Ravens) without asking for the rock that killed Goliath with fresh blood on it.
A deal would still be possible if the Ravens sucked but problem number 2 is they don’t. They are a middle of the pack team that is a few playmakers away from being contenders in January. They went to the playoffs last year and still have a chance to go this year. It would be hard to justify giving away all that you would have to in order to make the move to get Cribbs.
Lastly, there’s the possibility of the deal backfiring and becoming a press nightmare. Living in D/FW I can tell you the effects of the Roy Williams deal are still evident. Dallas traded 3 picks for him and he hasn’t panned out. Now every time he makes a mistake or they lose and he doesn’t contribute, the ownership and staff fall into question. No team wants to go through that, especially for a guy whose unhappy where he is as Cribbs was this past offseason.
The Ravens safest play would be to let things play out and see if he gets released. If he does get cut, he’s going to want to go to another division team so he can stick it to the Browns twice a year. It should be easier to get him then, without trading away picks or players.
